Effects of long term stress

When a person is dealing with the effects of stress over the long term it can harm you. If a person is dealing with stress on a regular basis and doing nothing about it, it will be considered long term stress. Long-term stress can lead to physical or psychological damage to the body.

A physical disorder can cause chronic long term stress.

Long term or chronic stress and have many effects and can develop into serious problems, like anxiety or depression. Those two and their effects can be even more serious to your health. Anxiety and depression can be very serious for a lot of people.



All three can cause a person to distance themselves from their loved ones or their careers. This can be the cause for feelings of sadness and dysfunctionality at the same time. Heart disease is another problem that can come from long-term stress.

Mental and physical stress is one of a few trigger for an unstable angina. Chest pain caused by lack of oxygen reaching the heart. There is a higher risk for serious heart events like heart attacks. A person can even die from this problem and sudden stress can cause the heart arteries to clench. They can stop the flow of blood to the heart. This is a major effect of long term stress

Stress can also cause a person to have high blood pressure. It doesn't happen in everyone but it does happen in a lot of people. High blood pressure can cause a stroke or heart attack. This may mean you'll have to go on medication to lower your blood pressure. It may eventually lead to a stroke if it isn't taken care of properly.

Long-term stress can cause changes in the the immune system making it less effective. This leaves you more vulnerable to colds and other diseases. Digestive problems can also be a cause of prolonged stress. To much stress can irritate the large intestine possibly causing diarrhea, constipation and gas.

Someone who has been dealing with long-term stress may have diet problems. Some of these problems may lead to eating disorders. It's possible they may become anorexic or obese. You may find that food is the enemy or the comfort when dealing with stress.

Diabetes is a problem that chronic stress can be a part of causing to develop. It can also lead to arthritis for some people and the ability to control these problems may be clouded by the effects of stress.



A lot of people may also have to deal with sleep disorders when they are dealing with stress. They are tired and anxious all the time and might be missing out on the sleep that is so important. Turning to sleeping pills and other methods can cause more problems later.

These are but a few of the many effects of long term stress. If you think you have to much or long term anxiety or stress see your doctor as soon as possible.
